Book
Launch for Alexandra Orlando (29th September,
2006)
BookLand
Press is pleased to announce the release of Alexandra
Orlando: In Pursuit Of Victory by Alexandra Orlando
and Martin Avery, the first book in the new series about
Canadian athletes.
Alexandra
Orlando: In Pursuit Of Victory is the story of the
rhythmic gymnast who set a world record by winning six gold
medals at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, in Australia and
now has her sites set on the 2008 Olympic Games. The Alexandra
Orlando story is filled with stellar accomplishments but
it is also about turning disappointments into challenges
and victories. It is a Cinderella story, about overcoming
great odds and having dreams come true. It is also a very
Canadian story.
After
winning a record six gold medals at the 2006 Commonwealth
Games and also earning the honour of being named Canada's
flag-bearer in the closing ceremonies, this young woman
instantly became the most recognizable rhythmic gymnastics
star since Lori Fung won gold in the sport's Olympic debut
in 1984 at Los Angeles. Alexandra Orlando is the reigning
Canadian champion, the national champion for the past five
years and the number one rhythmic gymnast in North America.
Alexandra
Orlando is overcoming all the obstacles and great odds in
her pursuit of victory. She comes from a country without
the best training facilities, no popular support for her
sport, little financial support, and without a longstanding
tradition of excellence in rhythmic gymnastics, but she
has already experienced great international success.
‘Rhythmic gymnastics is a marriage of music, dance,
and gymnastic floor routines using apparatus and it is not
nearly as popular in Canada as it is in Europe, where Alexandra
Orlando is considered a superstar‘, says Robert Morgan,
Publisher of BookLand Press. ‘I hope this book will
help promotion of this beautiful sport in Canada.’
