USA
Men’s Team for Worlds Announced (20th
August, 2006)
2006
U.S. all-around champion Alexander Artemov is one of six
men named to the U.S. Men’s Team for the World Championships
in Denmark.
In addition
to Artemev, the team features Guillermo Alvarez, Jonathan
Horton, Justin Spring, Clay Strother and Kevin Tan. Alternates
are David Durante and David Sender.
Artemev
also won the pommel horse and the parallel bars at the Nationals.
Horton, the 2006 NCAA all-around and Tyson American Cup
champion, was second in the all-around, followed by Alvarez.
Horton won the gold medal in the floor exercise, followed
by Clay Strother in second and Sender in third. Tan was
first in the still rings and Sender finished on top in the
vault, where Strother was second.
Spring,
who did not compete at the Visa Championships because he
is recovering from an injury, petitioned to the team. He
must show competitive readiness at the World team training
camp, Sept. 20-25, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in
Colorado. Earlier this year, Spring made it to the finals
in the horizontal and parallel bars at the World Cup event
in Ghent and was a member of the 2005 World Championships
Team.
