Podkopayeva Expecting A Baby Girl (15th August, 2006)

1996 Olympic AA champion Lilia Podkopayeva of Ukraine and husband Timofei Nagorni are expecting their first child later this year. The couple only recently adopted an eight month old baby boy from a Donetsk orphanage.

‘I couldn't get pregnant for a couple of years,’ the 28-year-old told Ukrainian daily newspaper Fakty i kommentari last Friday. ‘After being attacked and beaten three years ago, I had to have three operations. The doctors said I might not be able to have children.’ The birth is expected for the middle of November and the couple have already picked a name, ‘It's going to be a girl, and I want to name her Karolina, in honour of my good friend singer Ani Lorak.’ Lorak , whose real name is Karolina Kuyok, is a major star in Ukraine.
