Monica Rosu Retires (30th December, 2005)

In an interview by Daniela Ionescu for Romania Libera, Monica Rosu revealed her decision to retire from gymnastics. Rosu expressed her wish to continue training but only under the guidance of Belu and Bintang but as they are no longer coaches in Romania, she took the decision to retire just before Christmas after returning from Japan.Rosu said the new Code of Points doesn’t give her second vault enough value and she would have problems and difficulty to change this. She also noted that injury problems were another reason for her retirement however she was happy that she was able to compete in the Olympics.

While in Japan, Rosu said she was asked to join an entertainment show but refused saying she didn’t want to sleep in a tent and move around the country, also she doesn’t know how to speak Japanese! Rosu will concentrate on her baccalaureate exam and then enrol into the National Academy for Physics and Sport in Bucharest. Everyone at Backflip Gymnastics Magazine wishes Monica the very best in her retirement.
