Britain’s
Christine Still Receives Coaching Accolade(16th
December, 2005)
The
annual Sports Coach UK Awards took place at the prestigious
Dorchester Hotel in London. HRH Princess Anne attended as
guest of honour and presented the awards to all the winners.
Christine Still, the Director of Scottish Gymnastics National
Squads, was awarded the Mussabini Medal.
Born
in 1867, Sam Mussabini's coaching career spanned over five
Olympics and it amounted to an astonishing 11 Olympic medals
being gained. Despite this amazing success, Mussabini was
ostracised because he was a paid coach in the amateur era.
He therefore never achieved the recognition that he deserved.
Sports Coach UK felt that Sam Mussabini was the ideal role
model to express the struggle for recognition that coaches
often face and to sum up the extraordinary skills required.
