Igor
Cassina Hopes To Swing High for Bars Title (15th
November, 2005)
Italian
gymnast Igor Cassina will be hoping to add the Men’s
Horizontal Bar World title to the Olympic gold he won in Athens.
Competition will be high as Cassina faces the European Champion,
German Fabian Hambuechen and the defending World Horizontal
Bar champion, Japan’s Takehiro Kashima.
In
the lead up to the World Championships, Cassina won the International
French tournament held in Paris in May. In August, Cassina
finished with the silver medal at the European Championships
with 9.737. Hambuechen won the event with 9.750.
Cassina
has been honoured this year in the United Nation’s International
Year of Sport and Physical Education. The appointment, made
in October at a Grand Prix event, means that Cassina will
act as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Office on Drugs and
Crime.
